Bennet received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Temple University School of Pharmacy located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2017. Upon graduation, he began working as a hospital pharmacist at Rothman Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital (ROSH)—part of the Jefferson Health system. Bennet gained valuable experiences in his role working as a pharmacist in the perioperative setting. He soon became an active participant in the hospital’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee, Patient Safety committee and Antimicrobial Stewardship committee. He advocated for safe medication use while serving diligently in the roles presented to him by improving medication reconciliation process for patients prior to surgery, assisting in the development of Narcotic Risk assessment tool and working to meet hospital wide compliance of USP 797 & 800. He also served as a sub-investigator for the hospital’s clinical trials and provided hospital staff training for study protocol. He developed, maintained and implemented policies and procedure to ensure the perioperative pharmacy was fully compliant and capable of providing excellent pharmacy services to surgical patients and the nurses serving them. In addition to his full-time job, he also began working part time as an Emergency Department (ED) pharmacist at Pennsylvania Hospital—part of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. There, he continues to serve as a medication expert for nurses and physicians practicing in the ED offering informal toxicology consultation, antimicrobial stewardship, and recommendations for safe, efficacious use of medications. His passion for medication safety and process use led him to ISMP and he hopes to learn from the experts in the field to continue his work in improving medication management in the hospital setting.
