Medication Safety Analyst

Becky Lamis is a Medication Safety Analyst at the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP). She first joined ISMP in 2009 as an ISMP Safe Medication Management Fellow. Following the completion of her fellowship in 2010, Becky has assisted with the development and review of various medication safety tools, resources, and publications. Her work also includes coordinating orientation and other activities associated with the ISMP fellowship program, as well as participation in onsite risk assessments at healthcare facilities as needed.

Becky has been extensively involved in the development or revision of ISMP’s self-assessment tools, beginning with the 2011 ISMP Medication Safety Self Assessment® for Hospitals. Her work includes collaborating on the development of the self-assessment items, overseeing the build of the online self-assessment form used by participants to submit their data, analyzing the submitted information, working with healthcare facilities to identify opportunities for improvement based on their results, and contributing to the publication and/or presentation of the findings.

Becky came to ISMP from Wesley Medical Center, an acute care teaching hospital located in Wichita, Kansas, where she completed a pharmacy practice residency. During her residency she gained valuable clinical experience in optimizing medication therapy and providing care to both adult and pediatric patients. She also conducted research and received training in grantsmanship and medication safety. Becky received a BA in Biology and Spanish from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, and her PharmD from the University of Iowa in May of 2008.
