Medication Safety Specialist, Membership

Jen Young, PharmD, BCPS, CSP joined the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) as Medication Safety Specialist, Membership in 2023. In this role, Jen participates in the development and support of the Specialty Pharmacy Membership, contributes to the Community/Ambulatory newsletter and participates in on-site risk assessments in health care systems, particularly in the community and specialty pharmacy settings.

Prior to joining ISMP, Jen worked at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, located in North Carolina, for a cumulative 14 years. Her most recent role was Program Director for Specialty Pharmacy Services where she oversaw two outpatient specialty pharmacies (oncology and non-oncology), a specialty pharmacy call center, clinic-embedded pharmacy staff and a medication access center. Throughout her tenure, both pharmacy locations achieved dual specialty pharmacy accreditation, direct to consumer carrier delivery system optimization, and transitioned to an integrated electronic health record dispensing system. Before joining the specialty pharmacy team, Jen spent 5 years as a clinical pharmacist in the acute care space, practicing in general medicine at both Wake Forest Baptist Health and Prisma (Palmetto) Health in Columbia, SC. Jen has provided guest lectures focused on specialty pharmacy at local schools of pharmacy and served as a co-preceptor for a Leadership Development pharmacy resident rotation. Jen has presented poster research at national specialty pharmacy meetings and served as a peer reviewer for the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy.

Jen is a member of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) Section of Specialty Pharmacy Practitioners and served on multiple Section Advisory Groups. She is also an active member of the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy (NASP) and has served on the Customer Experience Committee. 

Jen earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy and completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Wake Forest Baptist Health. She is board certified in pharmacotherapy and is a certified specialty pharmacist
