Ann D. Shastay MSN, RN, AOCN
Ann Shastay has been the Managing Editor at the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) since 2008. Her work includes overseeing the review process and editorial aspects of our 5 newsletters, as well as content development for the consumer, nursing, and long-term care publications. She also participates in the editorial review of various other tools and documents posted on our website. In addition to her editorial work, Ann served as the project lead for the development of the 2012 ISMP International Medication Safety Self Assessment for Oncology which was developed in conjunction with ISMP Canada. She co-authored an article on the results of the self assessment and has also published and presented live seminars and webinars on this and other medication safety topics related to oncology. Ann is also an adjunct faculty member for Temple University School of Pharmacy where she co-teaches a medication safety course for pharmacy students. She contributes medication safety articles to Home Healthcare Now and serves on the editorial board for Nursing 2020.
Prior to joining ISMP, Ann worked primarily in the oncology field in both the acute care and outpatient office/clinic settings. Her most recent clinical role was at Holy Redeemer Hospital in Meadowbrook, PA, where she was the Director of the Bott Cancer Center and also managed their inpatient oncology unit. Prior to attaining that position, she worked as an inpatient Clinical Nurse Specialist educating nurses, developing competency programs, writing and reviewing policies and procedures, serving on various committees, presenting community outreach programs, and developing numerous patient education materials.
Ms. Shastay attended Widener University, Chester, PA, for both her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Nursing. She maintains her RN license through the state of Pennsylvania and is also certified as an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse (AOCN) through the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation. Ann is also a certified Les Mills instructor and teaches group exercise classes at local fitness centers.
