The Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) has released the first in a series of “video newsletters” being produced in partnership with the Temple University School of Pharmacy. The videos are designed to provide insight on emerging medication safety issues from nationally recognized experts.
Healthcare professionals will be able to access the videos, which are in a news format with short interviews, for a summary of top content from the biweekly ISMP Medication Safety Alert! newsletter. The newsletter provides potentially lifesaving information on medication and device errors, adverse drug reactions, as well as practical prevention strategies.
The first of four annual videos, now available online, focuses on:
- IV Push Medication Use: Findings and guidelines for managing risk that were developed as a result of a recent national ISMP summit.
- Eliminating Ratio Expressions: New United States Pharmacopeia (USP) requirements to remove ratio expressions in drug labeling.
- ISMP’s Targeted Medication Safety Best Practices: Highlights and changes for 2016-17 to recommendations that address specific issues continuing to cause fatal and harmful errors.
