- HIGH ALERT Medication Feature:
Reducing patient harm from opiates
- Look-alike vial alert!
We’ve received four reports of look-alike confusion between bumetanide and norepinephrine injection vials, both made by Bedford Laboratories.
- Purchasing for safety
To prevent mix-ups between look-alike products manufactured by the same company, hospitals may purchase one of the products from a different manufacturer. However, this tactic may be met with resistance in face of binding contracts with a manufacturer, purchasing group or hospital purchasing department.
- Message in our mailbox
In response to our article on improving response to computer alerts in our February 8th, 2007 issue, pharmacist Roxanne Cook of Toronto, Canada wrote to let us know of an additional prompt she utilizes in practice.
