ISMP Services for Small, Rural, and Critical Access Hospitals
The Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP), an independent, nonprofit organization with decades of experience in error prevention, can provide hospitals of any demographic with a wide range of medication safety resources.
ISMP’s group of multidisciplinary experts have extensive experience in working with smaller rural hospitals, including many onsite visits to address areas such as sterile compounding, oncology medication preparation, medication administration practices, and medication error reporting and data analysis. Even a one-day medication safety checkup by ISMP can go a long way toward identifying unseen risks.
The Institute has worked with critical access hospitals in multiple states, undertaken collaborative educational and assessment projects with small and rural hospitals, been contracted by state offices of rural health, and offered webinars, toolkits, and other materials developed specifically for rural health practitioners.
ISMP experts have also served on the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Section Advisory Group for Small and Rural Hospitals from its inception, and as speakers for the SAG programming at ASHP’s Midyear Clinical Meeting.
