Textbook and Publication Errata

Errors reported in publications

There is an error in Table 7-8 in the 3rd Edition of Hemostasis and Thrombosis (Editors.- Colman, Hirsh, Marder, and Salzman) published in 1994 by Lippincott- Raven on the treatment of von Willebrand disease. In the column labeled "Therapy", Humate P was omitted as the factor VIII/von Willebrand factor (FVIII/vWF) concentrate. This led to misalignment of the dosing recommendations in the table and the potential for confusion between desmopressin (DDAVP) and FVIII/vWF dosing. The proper dose of desmopressin is 0.3 micrograms/kilogram body weight administered intravenously diluted in sterile physiologic saline and infused slowly over 15-30 minutes. For individuals over 10 kilograms body weight, the desmopressin (DDAVP) is diluted in 50 ml of physiological saline and for individuals less than 10 kilograms, 10 ml of physiologic saline should be utilized. For more information, refer to the product insert provided with desmopressin (DDAVP). The new 4"' Edition of Hemostasis and Thrombosis will be published in late 2000 and contains updated treatment recommendations.
