Patient-Controlled Analgesia: Making it Safer for Patients

After studying this monograph, the reader should be able to:

  1. Identify common safety issues related to the use of patient-controlled analgesia (PCA).
  2. Design appropriate patient selection criteria for PCA use.
  3. Develop standard PCA prescribing and monitoring practices.
